The Universal Language of Kindness

Updated: Sep 24, 2021

There are so many different languages in the world. It is estimated that there are roughly 6,400 languages spoken globally! In one country alone hundreds of languages exist and are spoken by many different groups of people. In the U.S, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, residents speak more than 350 languages. That's in just one country! There could be languages that have not even been discovered yet for all we know. This can make communication difficult and sometimes separates people. However, of all the languages in the world, there is a couple of languages that everyone understands, no translator necessary, and one is called kindness.

Kindness is a language everyone understands. It can bring people together who otherwise may not be able to communicate due to language barriers or cultural differences. This is because words are not necessary to be kind. Kindness can be communicated in many ways. It can be giving a stranger a warm smile and a wave. Kindness can be holding the door for the person behind you. It can be allowing the tired mom to go before you in line at the grocery store so that she can get home quicker. It can also be inviting a kid who usually sits alone to sit with your group at lunch. Kindness is best shown through actions. It can bridge the gap between the differences we experience as individuals and brings us together.

There are so many different people in the world, everyone is unique in their way. There are people with different interests, different cultures, different beliefs, and different family dynamics and situations. In some cases, these differences can cause people to feel alienated and alone. Showing even just a little kindness to people who are different from you can help make them feel included. It shows them that their differences do not make them outcasts and that they can be loved and accepted despite those differences. It is also important to remember that kindness does not and should not ever discriminate. You should never find yourself picking and choosing who you are going to be kind to. Everyone deserves kindness, even if they see things differently than you or have different beliefs. There is nothing that disqualifies someone from being shown kindness and we do not get to decide that ourselves. You never know what someone is facing in their lives, and you taking the time to be kind, your beliefs and views aside, can be the highlight of their day. Your kindness can bring people together.
